Move4Nature Events at Malmö University with ESN Malmö
To close November, Young Delegate Doreen Heck delivered a Move4Nature Train-the-trainers and Multiplier event in Malmö, organised in partnership with ESN Malmö.
During the Train-the-trainer workshop, participants were introduced to the Move4Nature Trainers Toolkit and worked through each topic to develop a better understanding of sustainability and climate action. In small groups, they then discussed what sustainability looks like in their countries and communities. Participants then took part in the Move4Nature Quiz that prompted meaningful discussions among the curious students.
The core activity included a 30-minute Litter-Picking Challenge, during which participants collected litter in a park in teams of 4. They showed great enthusiasm and continued picking up waste during the one-hour walk after the challenge, resulting in a total collection of 4.5 kg of waste and an estimated walk of 4.5 km. The winning team was rewarded with a beverage brand focused on reducing fruit waste. This was used as an example of how they can engage their own communities in clean-up actions.
For the multiplier event, Doreen presented the other toolkit available and activities that have already been delivered as inspiration for future events in Malmö. From this, the group was encouraged to discuss how they can implement their own clean-up actions whilst enjoying some traditional Swedish Fika. The fika reinforced the theme of reducing food waste, as it was sourced through Too Good To Go. Following the discussion, M4N social media templates were shared, along with the current statistics on the project’s reach.
Overall, participants shared that they greatly appreciated the social aspect, interactive structure and the clean-up walk. Participants also provided feedback that they would like to see more ENGSO Youth-type activities in Malmö and enjoyed the combination of movement and sustainability.
