ENGSO Youth Committee gathered in Valencia, Spain, from 5 to 7 December, for the last Committee meeting of 2025.
The meeting started with a visit to a local club of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, where Committee members could see first-hand the social impact the club has on children, young people and women. More than a combat sport, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is anchored in core values like respect, discipline, humility, perseverance, and resilience, extending beyond physical techniques to foster personal growth, strong community bonds, and problem-solving skills. It teaches individuals to overcome challenges, build confidence, and approach life with a positive, ethical mindset.
Over the weekend and surrounded by the vibrant atmosphere of the Valencia Marathon, Committee members took stock of the work done during 2025 and discussed ENGSO Youth priorities and plans for 2026. During a year marked by the transition towards the new mandate (2025-2027) for both Committee members and Young Delegates, there was an overall positive assessment of the work done by ENGSO Youth, which saw remarkable milestones such as the biggest ever European Youth & Sport Platform (2025) and the further development of youth participation in sport governance (with the EUYOUSPORT project), the European Sport Platform and the Young Delegates meeting organised in Barcelona.
Committee members also highlighted the role of closer cooperation between partner organisations and institutional partners in strengthening the youth sport movement in Europe.
Looking ahead towards 2026, the meeting served as an important space for planning the events, meetings and work foreseen for next year. In this regard, important youth sport policy developments were discussed, such as the inclusion of the youth perspective in the Council of Europe bodies, the negotiations for the upcoming EU Youth Strategy (post-2027) and the Erasmus+ regulation (post-2027). The discussions focused on the importance of sport and physical activity for the lives of millions of young Europeans.
