Outdoor sport camps as education: ENGSO Youth hosts Dare2Move4Nature meeting in Vilnius

Can outdoor sports camps be used for education on environmental protection? Absolutely.

This past weekend, we gathered in Vilnius, Lithuania, for the Dare2Move4Nature project, which officially launched from 13–15 March 2025. ENGSO Youth is the coordinator of the project.

The flagship activities of Dare2Move4Nature will be two international outdoor camps for young people, held in Romania and Slovenia, with participants from these two countries as well as Lithuania. The camps will feature activities such as hiking, camping, learning about climate action, and cleaning up trails and campsites. Young participants will develop essential skills, including setting up tents, carrying cleanup bags, collecting litter along trails, and ensuring campsites are left spotless. They will also acquire practical survival skills for outdoor adventures.

The main objective of the project is to combine physical activities such as hiking and camping with hands-on climate action and sustainability education.

In addition to the camps, the team will develop an interactive educational toolkit on organising outdoor educational camps and facilitating environmental education with the aim to expand the initiative to other European countries. They will also host dissemination events and run a Europe-wide communication campaign.

Besides the meeting, we also enjoyed a walking tour around Vilnius and gathered over 30 kilometers of walking over the meeting days (per person).
