ENGSO Youth joins the Youth Policy Dialogue with Commissioner Glenn Micallef

Our Young Delegate, Valentine Wolfgang, joined 30 inspiring young leaders from across Europe in the Youth Policy Dialogue with Glenn Micallef, Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture, and Sport, held on 28 January 2025 in Athens, Greece.

Alongside other participants from diverse backgrounds connected to culture and sport, she had the opportunity to engage in discussions on the topic “All In: Promoting Inclusiveness through Sports and Culture” and share ideas with the Commissioner.

The dialogue focused on three key topics:

1) Making careers in sport and culture a reality for young people

2) Fostering access to culture and cultural heritage for youth

3) Sport and inclusion

After discussing opportunities, challenges, and personal experiences, participants shared numerous recommendations with the Commissioner to drive positive change in these areas during his mandate. In the area of sport and inclusion, this included ideas from ENGSO Youth, such as establishing a Youth Sport Sounding Board, enhancing EU-wide cooperation on safeguarding, promoting greater inclusion of para-sport in the European Week of Sport, and emphasising both formal and non-formal education to foster inclusion from an early age.

Following the Dialogue, participants had the chance to play wheelchair basketball alongside professionals and take part in a collaborative graffiti session with an artist. The day concluded with a guided tour of the Acropolis Museum.

We appreciate the Commissioner’s initiative to prioritise youth engagement and sport in his work and look forward to seeing the outcomes of the Dialogue put into action to help build a more inclusive and equitable Europe.
