ENGSO Youth scoring for sustainability: Football for Sustainability Summit
The Football for Sustainability Summit took place on 11-12 July 2024, in Berlin, Germany, on the occasion of the UEFA EURO 2024. The Summit was organised by GIZ (German development cooperation agency) and Common Goal based on a request of the German government to ensure that sustainability efforts organising EURO 2024 would be scaled up for the upcoming sport initiatives all around the world.
ENGSO Youth chair Ugne Chmeliauskaite was invited to the summitt for discussions to represent civil society, grassroots sport and development agencies point of view on sustainability matters related to mega sport events.
Partnership and projects manager Nadica Sechkov Jovanovik was invited to facilitate “Future Leaders in Football” training, held as part of GIZ’s Sport for Development and DFB German Football Association activities. Together with 5 girls who enrolled in the programme, they represented the voice of female athletes in the panel “Future leaders in Football – how to make football more diverse?”.
ENGSO Youth Young Delegate Anton Klischewski was invited to share his point of view on sustainability actions implemented by sports clubs. He also shared his recent achievement of developing a sustainable sport jersey made of cradle to cradle certified materials.
ENGSO Youth has been working on sustainability within the youth and sport sector for a decade through its own initiatives and projects such as Sport for Sustainable Development with a focus on the legacy of the Mega Sport events, Youth for Sustainable Development and Move4Nature. The Sustainable Development working group’s main aim is to support and implement a holistic approach to the sustainable development of Grassroots Sport. Follow our actions here.
