ENGSO Youth joins the Expert Group on Youth Rights
The Expert Group on Youth Rights kick started with the first in person meeting this April. The meeting was held on the 29-30th of April on the premises of the European Youth Forum in Brussels. The expert group is formed by 10 young people who come from different organisations across Europe.
During the first meeting the expert group:
Establish common identity and expectations;
Looked into the advocacy strategy 2023-2033 to advocate for better youth rights mainstreaming, a UN Special Procedure on the Rights of Young People and a UN Convention on the Rights of Young People, by identifying:
key stakeholders, allies and blockers;
key dates UN dates (Human Rights Council dates, Universal Periodic Reviews (UPR), UN Treaty Body reviews;
Strategically identified which UN countries will be reviewed across different UN human rights processes and discussed how to mobilise members;
They identified regional youth organisations to consult with on youth rights issues, based on what youth rights issues are of a concern to them.

The meeting was led by Jessica Nguyen and facilitated by Nadica Jovanovik.
In the upcoming period the group will have follow up online meetings and prepare a youth rights advocacy paper in order to approach stakeholders. -> Would change this to: “In the upcoming period the group will have follow up online meetings and prepare our advocacy engagement with UN stakeholders.
